Welcome to the TOSCA project

Manufacturing Processes and Digital Tools for more Sustainable Composite Aerostructures

Lightweight composite materials are revolutionizing the efficiency of modern aircraft. However, their recyclability remains a major challenge. The TOSCA (Manufacturing Processes and Digital Tools for more Sustainable Composite Aerostructures)project is addressing this issue by developing an innovative processing chain for epoxy vitrimer resins—materials that combine the strength of conventional composites with enhanced recyclability.
This Horizon Europe-funded initiative officially started in January, 2025 and is set to run for 36 months, with a budget of over
€ 4.5 million. The project brings together 8 leading research and industry partners from 5 different countries across Europe to develop innovative, sustainable solutions for composite manufacturing and recycling in the aerospace sector.

What We Aim to Achieve

TOSCA is setting the foundation for the next generation of composite manufacturing by:

  • Advancing recyclable epoxy vitrimer resins for aerospace applications
  • Developing a full production chain, from automated lay-up to repair and recycling
  • Embedding inspection systems to enable real-time monitoring and zero-defect manufacturing
  • Bridging the gap between research and industry for real-world implementation

How We Make a Difference

The TOSCA project unites industry leaders and top research institutions to turn cutting-edge science into real-world solutions. By covering the entire composite manufacturing chain, from automated production to  maintenance and efficient recycling, we ensure that our innovations are both practical and scalable. Our work is aligned with Clean Aviation initiatives, ensuring that our developments contribute to the long-term transformation of the European aviation industry.

Join us as we take composite manufacturing into a new era—where performance, sustainability, and digital intelligence go hand in hand.
